This week’s question: What's the most charming small town movie? The Rules: Post your answer as a comment. Whoever gets the most likes on their answer by Saturday wins the fight and gets to choose next Monday's question.
Not the greatest movie, but not horrible either. It was cute and I liked the premise. It’s not a popular or well known movie so if you haven’t heard of it, here’s the blurb—
“...inspired by the remarkable true story of a retiree who discovers a mathematical loophole in the Massachusetts lottery, and with the help of his wife, wins millions and uses the money to revive their small Michigan town.”
Follow Me, Boys - I've mentioned it before. It set in the 1920s, and a troupe of musicians comes through the small town. But one of the musicians falls in love with a local girl so gives up the music life, becomes a drugstore worker just so that he can get the girl, and in the meantime becomes a boy scout leader (to attract the girl) and ends up being influential in the lives of generations of young men.
I can never get this title straight so I’ll need to look it up, but…(pauses to consult the interwebs for correct wording)…The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society has a wonderfully fun, intimate, quirky small town feel in spite of the ridiculously impossible title. Plus it has books and tea. 👏🏻
Ooh how is that movie? I have it on my “must watch” list. I keep bypassing it for other movies, but I’ll move it to the top of the list if it’s really good?
Isn’t it interesting how we (well...me...I should only speak for myself, but it seems collective) weren’t turned off from a movie or a book if it contained an “alternative lifestyle” character until it became a crazed ideology and crap narrative and infringed on other peoples rights and stomped all over the First Amendment and Hollywood began using movies and tv as manipulative propaganda? How’s that for a run-on sentence? 😅
Rotten Tomatoes says it's "clichéd and short on charm" ... whatever. That doesn't sway me. I am generally not a fan of romantic comedy, but this one is rated PG... so, less romance and more comedy. I love this movie.
For all the reasons...
It's a Wonderful Life. Final answer.
I really can't argue against that.
Oh gosh, yes. 👏🏻🙌🏻
A hands down winner this week. Congratulations, Chris Bottoms, you get to choose Monday's question.
I’m going with JERRY & MARGE GO LARGE

It’s good! Better than the book. Cozy, funny, British. 😁
I love “cozy, funny, British” 👏🏻🙌🏻
Me too! And it’s not woke, although there is one alternative lifestyle character, mostly played for ironic humor.

It’s a good one. 😂 And I agree.
New in Town.

I really like that movie too! Pfft Rotten Tomatoes lives up to its name. I rarely agree with their ratings.
Ooh, I’ll have to check that one out!
The Goonies
It’s wacky, wholesome, adventurous, and hilarious. What’s more relatable than a bunch of kids just talking over each other all the time?
I have to give a vote for this simply because I love The Goonies! One of my favorite childhood movies.
