I'm like Maggie in that I've been thinking on this one far too long and just need to think up one that I've watched a billion times but would still gladly fire up the DVD again. I'm going with one that I saw in the theater twice, bought a special edition letterboxed VHS of, and then a DVD after that wore out: The Last of the Mohicans.
I was having trouble picking until I asked my husband to help me to pick one. He reminded me that only a day ago we watched a movie that I literally said, “I don’t know why I love this movie so much, but it never gets old no matter how many times we’ve watched it”. That movie was, Red.
Far be it from me to rain on anyone's parade (really!). This is one DH and I enjoy. It's been awhile so we watched it the other night. Guess what caught my eye?!?
The Sara Ross character returns from a bad first date. She heads to the fridge, and reaches waaaaay down on the bottom door shelf to grab a beer.... A Corona beer.
Later, Frank Ross speaks Chinese to prove he knows other languages. At the end of his little Chinese dialogue, he clearly says, "Wuhan."
I mean, I think you are inferring a connection to the “China virus”??? But I’m not totally seeing it other than the mention of the city of origin. I’m sure once you fill in the blanks, I’ll be like, “ooooooh” 🤦🏻♀️😏
Others have done the legwork -finding references to the Kung-fu virus in movies (also 9/11 references in the media). Go to the part where she comes home after her date then watch going forward from there. Frank also mentions how his buddy was kidnapped by Big Bro and fed LSD for 11 years...
👍🏻 Yup. Totally aware of the programming and I’ve seen plenty played out in movies and tv long before 2020, but in this particular case, the script feels based more on everything we already know they’ve done and continue to do and less to do with foreshadowing what they were planning to do in the future. But I’ll look again. I don’t doubt for one second that you could very well be right.
There are a lot of great choices. There are only a couple of movies that I can tolerate watching over and over and over (and over ... and on a side note ... one of those is Elf 😂 😉 ) but, the one movie that stands the test of time for me, is The Shawshank Redemption. I feel like I know every line, every scene, every nuance... but it never gets old. (Truth be told, there's one character in there that I absolutely can't stand, but I still watch it and love it, because obviously that one annoyance is completely overshadowed by the joy this film brings me.) It's very, very cathartic, and it never fails to make me smile (a real one... like a big heart-smile) at the end. Amazing movie.
Westerns and samurai films will always be my favorite films, and I pretty much combine them together as the same genre. This movie is action-filled, funny, has extremely memorable characters, iconic soundtrack, unforgettable scenes, and is just so much fun to watch.
When I read this week's fight, I immediately thought of a movie that checks all the boxes for me. So much so, the I have purchased this movie three or four separate times because it was on sale, and I didn't remember that we had a copy.
My final answer this week is the newer version of The Italian Job with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron. Great movie!
But we did actually manage to watch that movie 10X too many times and sadly, the thrill is gone. 😂 I never thought it would happen, but it did. Maybe in another 10 years we’ll be able to dust it off and watch it again.
The Giver. It's a great movie - cinematographically, thematically, etc. My son was mentioning the other day that every time he watches it, he notices something new. Definitely worth watching - and re-watching!

There’s just SO many!

Great movie. My favorite part is Helen Mirren using a .50 while wearing a white evening gown. So many great scenes.
Love Mirren in this role! The cast is so perfect. I don’t even like John Malkovich, but I love him as that particular character.
And Red 2 is almost as good... almost.

My mind was blown. This movie came out in 2010.
Whoa, never noticed that either. Interesting…
🤔 can you splain more please?

It starts with an assassin "suiciding" an innocent guy a-la Hillary, so there's that. In any case its a good excuse to watch it again.
One of my faves, too. 😁
Great minds and all that 😁😘

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Princess Bride
For me it’s probably Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows. It’s so clever and the dialogue is so fast, I catch something new every time.
Oh maaaan, I “hearted” both yours and Vince’s answers! I’ll have to make up my mind by Saturday which one I like more. 😁
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched that movie! SO good! I may have to watch it again tonight 😍
Vote for both.
Oh! I thought we were supposed to only vote for one?
That would definitely make things easier on this characteristically indecisive person 😁
Yup, vote for all of them if you want, even yours.
Sweet! 👍🏻😎
Right...sounds like research... ;)
🎯😁👏🏻
