Tom Holland in The Impossible. It's a film about the tsunami that decimated Thailand in 2004. He and his severely injured mother search through the aftermath for the rest of their family.

I’ll nominate Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit. She really stole the show as Mattie, while acting amongst actors with way more experience. She really captured Mattie’s spunk and tenacity.

I am countering Iree’s vote with Skandar Keynes’ sulky, jerky, and ultimately redemptive portrayal in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe — if for nothing else than I love him for saying, when told to go outside for fresh air, “It’s not like there isn’t air INside.” 😂👏🏻

I was rather impressed with a young Natalie Portman in The Professional. A gritty, raw and honest performance for someone so young.

Dakota Fanning instantly came to mind for her role in I Am Sam.

However, I am going old school with Henry Thomas for ET.

I always thought Georgie Henley did a great job as Lucy from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (though I was not as impressed with her in Jane Eyre). And since the obvious choice was taken by Lazy and Cheap, she's my final answer.

Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap. She plays two characters, and then each of those characters imitating the other, so convincingly that I keep forgetting it's just one actress. Have rewatched that movie many times and always find some nuance in her performance that I'd missed.
